Every bus rider must wait patiently at their bus stop along the road early in the morning. Children must be careful and stay alert while they wait for the bus. To remain safe at the bus stop, every child should: - Arrive early at the bus stop (at least five minutes before scheduled arrival) - Stand 6 feet (or three giant steps) away from the curb while waiting for the bus - Be accompanied by a parent or guardian before they are old enough to understand and adhere to safety measures - Know who to call in case they need any help or miss their bus - Know not to talk to strangers if they are approached or give out personal information, such as their name, address, phone number, etc. - Tell a trusted adult immediately if a stranger approaches them #RepthatA

This week is #NationalSchoolBusSafetyWeek, which recognizes and reminds us all about the safety precautions put in place to protect students while riding the bus. Each day during this week, we will share safety tips and facts about how to create a safe environment for our students while riding the bus. Up first, when to stop for buses! On a road with fewer than four lanes, all traffic approaching a stopped school bus from either direction must stop at least 10 feet from the front or rear of the bus and remain stopped until it begins to move or the bus driver signals motorists to proceed. If a bus is stopped on a street with four or more lanes, only traffic proceeding in the same direction as the bus must stop. And, as always, reduce distractions while driving and stay alert and aware so you can expect the unexpected. #RepthatA

While our dedicated Bus Drivers and Bus Aides are always on the lookout for safety issues, children must do their part to stay safe both in and around school buses. Children should always: - Stay in their seat, keeping their head, arms and papers inside the bus at all times - Talk quietly and avoid creating distractions for the driver - Keep aisles clear of books, bags and sporting equipment - Walk carefully down the aisle when getting on and off the bus - Be respectful and avoid conflict with other students #RepthatA
