ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

English Learners are students whose primary or home language is other than English who need special language assistance in order to effectively participate in school instructional programs. If a student has a language other than English spoken in the home and has completed the Home Language Survey at enrollment, the student will be assessed for English Language Proficiency. If the student qualifies, he/she is then an EL (English Learner). ELs may be born in the USA or come from other countries. To learn more visit www.education.ohio.gov.
