Alliance City Schools recently held the 3rd Annual Futures Fest! ✈ The event is an evening full of career exploration that supports the district’s vision of preparing all Aviators for Life, College, and Careers.

The event featured a job fair with more than 70 vendors, including employers, colleges, and branches of the military. Students, families, and community members were able to stop by to talk with vendors and gather information about future careers, schooling, and opportunities. The evening also included a career fashion show featuring middle school students.

Futures Fest offers activities each year for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. This year, elementary students read about possible careers and filled out activity sheets about what they want to be when they grow up. #RepthatA

7th and 8th graders in Matt Horning’s Career Explorations class at Alliance Middle School designed an amusement park as a culminating activity at the end of the first nine weeks. The students first learned about possible careers in Arts and Media, Architecture and Construction, and Information Technology. They filled out a short application and were hired for one of eight different jobs.
Students from four different classes worked together to design and construct their Galaxy Adventure Amusement Park. They agreed the biggest challenges were communication between classes, or “work shifts,” and meeting deadlines. 🎠🎢

The Alliance City Schools Technology Department hosted the 12th annual Techvember Fest on Tuesday! 🖥

While students had the day off, ACS staff spent the day learning and growing through four in-person sessions that covered everything from using school technology more effectively to internet safety and other tech-related topics. 👨‍💻 The sessions are taught by ACS staff and administrators, tech vendors and local experts who are excited to share their knowledge with staff.

This popular professional development day is always a favorite among staff, who enjoy choosing sessions that fit their interests and help them build new skills to better teach and support students. 👩‍🏫

A big thank you to Misty Sampson, Chad Morris, and John Marchick for creating such a unique and engaging PD experience for our ACS staff! ✈ #RepthatA

✈ Steve Cabassa ✈
Position: Art Teacher
School: Alliance High School
Graduation Year: 2007
Years at ACS: 8

Favorite Memory:
"I have so many great memories, it is hard to narrow them down. I loved playing on the tennis team in high school, going to Washington DC in 8th grade, Camp Fitch in 6th grade and as a chaperone in high school. I also loved my art classes with Mrs. Crookshank and my English classes with Mr. Ballor."

Influential Staff Member:
"Mr. Jackson was my chosen honored educator when I graduated. He was my 10th grade U.S. History teacher and made every lesson fun and entertaining. He is a huge reason why I decided to become a teacher."

Choosing to work for ACS:
"I was previously teaching elementary art in another district when a high school teaching position opened up in Alliance. I was eager to apply and loved the idea of teaching high school and getting the chance to coach high school sports."

Importance of giving back:
"Alliance has given me so many great opportunities that helped shape who I am today, both academically and personally. It’s really meaningful and an honor to be able to give back to current students and support the same community that supported me."

Mr. Cabassa’s journey is a true work of art, a story of coming home, giving back, and inspiring the next generation of Aviators. ✈ 🩵❤️ #RepthatA

Some of the 2nd graders at Alliance Elementary School learned about fire safety from a familiar face! 🔥 Alliance Firefighter Will Kinser, a 2019 graduate of Alliance High School, visited the classes of Crystal Haba, Amy Recchuiti, and Morgan Thomas to teach students about fire safety!

Will talked about the importance of smoke detectors, knowing your address, calling 911, and remembering to stop, drop, and roll. He also put on his full firefighting gear so students could see what he looks like while on the job and explained how each piece keeps him safe.

Thank you, Will, for sharing your time and expertise and for being such a great example of an Aviator being a caring citizen! ✈ #RepthatA
