Students in Megan Harper's kindergarten class have been studying fall! 🍁 As part of their unit, students went on a leaf hunt, where they each collected several leaves. Each kindergartner completed a leaf investigation, which included looking closely at the leaves with a magnifying glass, drawing their leaves, sorting leaves by color and size, and measuring leaves with blocks. 🔎 What a perfect autumn activity! 🍂 #RepthatA

Mindy Wolford's 1st grade class played a fun, interactive game to practice nouns! 📚 Each student wore a headband with a picture of a noun on it. With a partner, they had to guess what their own noun was by using clues. 🤔 How fun! #RepthatA

Students in Conni Cross’ 1st grade classroom learned how to make Spooky Soup 🍲 just in time for the fall season! 👻 The week-long writing project started with a read-aloud of the story “Spooky Soup,” and afterward, the class worked together to add spooky items to their class soup.

After this, students were challenged to make their own recipe for Spooky Soup using three spooky ingredients of their choice. Students completed two days of revising before writing their final pieces. Finally, students added to their writing by completing a spooky craft of a bubbling cauldron to pair with their Spooky Soup writing!

Kaitlyn Lambdin's 1st grade class finished learning about r-blends by making trail mix with different foods that have an r-blend in the name! 🥨 Students took turns adding different ingredients to the bucket to enjoy for an afternoon snack. Some of the yummy snacks included PRetzels, TRix cereal, Animal CRackers, FRitos and FRoot Loops! 😋 #RepthatA

Students in Crystal Gibbons' 1st grade class completed a unit on how their bodies move! 🦴 They read nonfiction texts and learned how diagrams provide important information by labeling different body parts.

To put their learning into action, students created their own skeletons and labeled the various body parts. They practiced stretching their learning by sounding out words, tapping each sound on their arms or fingers, and writing those sounds on their labels. The students did a wonderful job combining science, reading and writing while learning about the human body! 📚✏️

Orange for inclusion! 🧡 Our staff and students wore orange this week to celebrate inclusivity before World Inclusion day tomorrow! At Alliance City Schools, we believe everyone deserves to feel welcomed, valued, respected and included. Our differences make us unique, and together, they make our Aviator community stronger!

Today and every day, we encourage our students and staff to lead with kindness, celebrate differences and make sure everyone feels like they belong. Small acts of inclusion can make a big difference!

Alliance City Schools has officially joined Kindland's initiative of completing 250 acts of kindness this school year!

Kindness can be simple: invite someone to play with you or sit with you, help a classmate, give someone a compliment, tell someone thank you for helping you, or offer an encouraging word. Small actions help people feel welcome, happy, valued and connected and can inspire others to be kind, too.

Throughout the year, students and staff will report their acts of kindness, and we will track them as a district until we reach our goal of 250!

Parents are able to report acts of kindness through Kindland's reporting form at https://www.usofkindness.org/share-an-act-of-kindness.

We are excited to see all the amazing acts of kindness our Aviators complete this year! Follow along as we help to spread kindness throughout our schools and community!

Tracy Bowser's kindergarten class had some science fun when they planted grass and bean seeds! 🌱 The students watered and measured their plants each week and even created a house to put behind the plants. They enjoyed watching the plants grow over time and comparing the two different kinds using descriptive words! Our budding botanists had so much fun with this project! 🪴 #RepthatA

Each month, Becky Robertson's 1st grade class will welcome back at least one retired teacher to be a guest reader! Their first guest reader was Joan Skidmore! 📚

She read them a fun, interactive book called “I Say OH You Say NO.” The kids loved participating in the story. Mrs. Skidmore also brought them fun “boots & books” coloring pages for Dolly Parton Day and fall bookmarks to color. 🎨

Even our kindergartners at Alliance Early Learning School are celebrating Start With Hello Week! 😊 Students in Tracy Bowser's class learned how to introduce themselves to someone new and ask questions. They practiced in their classroom and throughout the building, including introducing themselves to Shelli Grove's 1st grade class! 👋 #RepthatA

Students in Megan Harper's kindergarten class have been working on counting! As a fun end to the unit, students were given "recipe" cards to make "math soup." 🍲 They visited stations around the room to collect their "ingredients" (buttons, blocks, etc.). Then, they had to count out the correct number of each ingredient to put in their soup, according to their recipe. When finished, they exchanged bowls with a friend to check each other's work! 😃 What a great activity! #RepthatA

Assistant Superintendent Shawn Jackson was the first guest reader for Baeli Kimble's 1st grade class! 📚 He read them the story “There’s an Alligator Under My Bed.” At the end, the students had the opportunity to ask Mr. Jackson questions.

One student asked, “What is your favorite part of your job?” He responded with visiting classrooms and interacting with students of all ages! 😊 The class loved having Mr. Jackson visit so much, and the kids loved the story. #RepthatA

Each year, Alliance City Schools participates in Start With Hello Week! 👋 A simple "Hello" has the power to change a person's entire day. Throughout the week, all Aviators will participate in activities that strive to make connections, build relationships and provide a sense of belonging in our school community.

Crystal Gibbons' 1st grade class had their first guest reader of the year! 📚 Mariah Gibbons, Mrs. Gibbons' daughter, read "Skippy Jon Jones Lost in Space." 🚀 It was also her birthday, and the class made sure to give her her very own birthday crown and balloon! 🎈

Tracy Bowser's kindergartners read "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" 📚 They sorted pictures with a friend into "bucket filler" or "bucket dipper," then practiced giving compliments and filling each other's buckets with coins. The students then wrote a message on the back of paper buckets and walked around the building giving them to staff to practice filling others' buckets. 🪣
