Larry Kukura

ALLIANCE, OHIO – (April 20, 2022) – Larry Kukura has resigned as the Alliance Aviator’s head boys basketball coach after 17 seasons. His resignation is effective immediately.

Kukura has held the position since his hiring in 2005. Over the years, he has made a tremendous impact on the program and athletes he coaches. In 2020, he became Alliance High Schools boys basketball all time winningest coach with 240 wins at the time. He eclipsed the previous record holder, Harry Fails, who had 239 wins by the end of his tenure as coach.

During career at AHS, Kukura had 269 wins and 122 losses, eight league championships and was voted league coach of the year eight times and Ohio coach of the year twice in 2012 and 2014. He finished the 2011-12 season undefeated and ranked second in the final state pool for division 2.

“I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to be the boys basketball coach at AHS the past 17 years,” Kukura said. “I appreciate all the time and effort from the players and assistant coaches over the years to make Alliance boys basketball a great program. The relationships developed over the years by being the head coach have been incredible.”

Throughout his full coaching career, Kukura has been a head coach for 23 years and has an overall record of 332 wins and 183 losses.

Kukura will continue his teaching career at AHS as the business teacher.

“We are grateful for the impact Larry has had on our boys basketball program,” said Mike Schott, athletic director. “We cannot thank him enough for the time he has spent building the program and team and bringing it to where it is now. As the search for a new coach begins, we are determined to find one who will continue with the legacy of excellence Kukura has built over the years.”

The search for a new boys head boys basketball coach will begin immediately.
