Sean Weatherspoon

ALLIANCE, OHIO – (April 10, 2023) – Sean Weatherspoon has resigned from his position as head boys basketball coach at Alliance High School. His resignation is effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.

Weatherspoon was hired as the head basketball coach in 2022 when Larry Kukura stepped down after 17 years as head coach.

Weatherspoon led the boys basketball team to an EBC championship this year with the team going to the district semi-finals.

“In the short time Coach Weatherspoon has been here, he has made a positive impact on the program and our student athletes,” said Tim Goodman, athletic director. “We’re sad to see him go, but wish him the best of luck. Finding a new coach that’s a good fit for our community, our school district and our student athletes is a top priority for us. Like we do with all positions, we will be sure to hire the best possible candidate whose values align with those of the district.”

The district will begin its search for a new head boys basketball coach immediately.

Along with being a coach, Weatherspoon offered student support at Alliance High School and Alliance Middle School throughout this school year. Weatherspoon has accepted a position at Canton City Schools as the boys basketball coach.
