Jackson Approved as Director of Secondary Education

Shawn Jackson, the current principal of Alliance High School, was approved as the director of secondary education at the Board of Education regular meeting held Tuesday.

Jackson will transition to the new role on Jan. 4. In this position, he will oversee curriculum and the activities of Alliance Middle School and Alliance High School while his counterpart, Michelle Balderson, will oversee the curriculum and activities at the elementary level. The two positions will work together to fulfill the roles and responsibilities previously assigned to the position of assistant superintendent.

“I’m looking forward to working with the high school and middle school administration and staff to provide all of our students with a great educational experience,” Jackson said. “I believe every student can learn and grow and I’m excited to work with the students and families of Alliance to help our students achieve success, and I’m thankful to Mr. Gress and the BOE for giving me this opportunity.”

Jackson served as principal of AHS for the past 10 years where he has made a positive impact on the culture and day-to-day activities in the building. He is looking forward to the new challenges this role will present and the ability to continue his work not only at AHS, but at AMS as well.

“Shawn has always been motivated by what is best for our students and our district.  He has a relentless work ethic that has contributed to a great culture at the high school.  Under his leadership, AHS was a supportive, safe, and successful building.  His goal has always been to show love and respect for our students, while pushing them to reach their potential.  I know that mindset will continue to be a part of his work at the district level.”

Kristy Woodford will step into the role of  principal of AHS once Jackson transitions to his new position at the administration building.
