A Spirited Week Ends in Championship

Homecoming week is always an exciting time for Alliance High, but this year’s may have raised the bar. In addition to a great Spirit Week and a fantastic dance, a victory in Friday’s basketball game made the Aviators the Eastern Buckeye Conference champions.

Spirit Week had plenty of interesting themes this year, with returning favorites like Pajama Day and new additions like Rapper-Rocker-Country Singer Day, with students dressing up like stereotypical rock stars and twangy country singers.

Valentine’s Day fell on Thursday, and love was in the air. The sound of the Choralaires serenading students with classics like Elvis Presley’s  “Can’t Help Falling in Love” filled nearly every classroom. These Singing Valentines were purchased by students who wanted to give their special someone the gift of song on a special day.

Students showed off their Aviator pride, wearing red and blue for a school-wide Pep Rally on Friday, building excitement for the EBC championship game later that night.

The Aviators played their hardest against Canton South, securing the victory with a score of 69-40. It was a difficult and nerve-wracking game, but the players gave it their all, managing a 17-point lead after three quarters and extending that lead by two more points in the fourth.

Winter Homecoming was Saturday night, ending an eventful week with a winter wonderland of a dance. In line with the wintery theme chosen by Homecoming advisor Jennifer Armstead, Madeline McClellan, and sophomore class officers Kamryn Bondoni, Meghan Frazier, Julia Schwartz and Anthony Zumbar, decorations ranged from white and silver snowflakes to shiny blue bulb lights, with blue gossamer hanging from the ceiling.

According to Armstead, turnout was high, with 170 students coming to enjoy an evening DJ’d by Alliance’s own DJ Head Trauma, aka Carson Parmenter.

This year’s Homecoming court consisted of freshmen Emma Huff and Ty Young, sophomores Carmen Roller and Joe Pennington, juniors Maggie Ledbetter and Trevor Strata and seniors Lakeera Wright and Will Kinser. Quinton Yoho and Cheyane Benning took the crowns for king and queen.

The end of the dance signaled the end of the week, leaving students exhausted but satisfied, and ready for a relaxing three-day weekend.
