Aviator Weekly - Sept. 23

Alliance Early Learning School

\r\n

Alliance Early Learning School Kindergarten teachers Lori Gasparik, Cindy Gaines, Megan Harper and Shari Johnson celebrated Constitution Day with their students this week. Students learned why the Constitution was written and how it impacts our lives today. Then, each class made its own Constitution, outlining expectations for kindergarten, and even utilized the well-known words from the beginning of the Preamble, altering them slightly to say "We the kids..." Students also learned about the flag and made heart flags to show their love and appreciation for their country.

First Grade Learning

\r\n

Our first graders are settling into our Reading Roots classrooms, where they are learning the skills necessary to become solid readers. Students are reviewing letters and sounds, utilizing partner strategies and learning writing strategies so that they are able to connect with the text. They had fun reading and doing activities using the book “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes. The book teaches the students that their names are special and wonderful. Students completed many activities with their names including crafts, poetry and games. First graders are also learning geometry using the pattern block templates to compose a new shape from smaller shapes.

\r\n

Father’s Walk your Child to School Day was very successful. It was so nice to see the smiles, laughing and hugs exchanged. Thank you to the Fatherhood Coalition for the items and information given to our dads.

\r\n

The annual Alliance Elementary Fall Festival was so much fun. Students were able to spend time with their families and teachers enjoying the games, bounce houses, face painting, food and fun. Thank you to everyone whole helped to make it so special.
